North Korea is 'huge heroin producer'
"Kim Jong Il, the North Korean leader, has made the Stalinist state one of the world's leading heroin producers, former North Korean officials have claimed.
According to the defectors, one of whom addressed the US Senate this week, Mr Kim personally ordered the cultivation of huge poppy plantations for production of the narcotic.
They said that North Korea had been farming opium poppies for a quarter of a century and obtained more than half of its foreign exchange earnings from drug smuggling to Japan, China and Taiwan. "
É claro que haja quem, apesar das provas, prefira continuar a não acreditar nisto:
"We can say that North Korean ships are involved, that North Korean waters are involved and North Koreans are involved. But this doesn't mean the Fovernment is directing it," said Mr Schaepe, who visited North Korea last June. "If heroin is found on a UK ship we do not assume that it comes from the UK."
É claro que os dois regimes são perfeitamente comparáveis. Para além disso, como em qualquer bom regime estalinista, na Coreia do Norte tudo pertence ao estado...
