"To no one's astonishment, inflation is back to 17%, exactly where where it a year ago. There are encouraging signs that the good men and women from the Inland Revenue may take strike action. Perhaps with Peter Jay [1] safely in Washington, his father-in-law [2] will adopt the policies that Jay has put forward over the years in The Times, namely that government, like individuals, should not spend more than they have. But this is complicated though and may take several years to filter through the agile mind of Wily Jim. Mrs Tatcher will have to do something extremly foolish - for exemple, assault the Queen Mother - to lose the next election [3]."
